Being cramped into a tiny seat inside a metal tube for hours on end, sleeping in an unnatural upright position and eating nuked food out of a plastic tray featuring who knows what. Yep, that is the experience of long-haul economy class. But, who are the worst airlines for this experience?
Admittedly, some are better than others but when it is all boiled down, economy class is generally just that. “Economy” class. The cheapest seats which make travelling affordable to the masses. Then again, what’s twenty or so hours out of your life to experience the amazing wonders of the world? For me, I grin and bear it. I don my comfy track pants and pack my doctor prescribed sleeping medication (a godsend on long flights). Living in Australia, I have to put up with extremely long flights with layovers. All part of living in the beautiful part of the world I do.
But are all economy experiences alike? Apparently they are not.
That is according to airline reviewer Skytrax and Business Insider Australia, who have ranked the 10 worst airlines in the world for flying in the back bowels of the aircraft in cattle-class. The list is based on the ratings and reviews by Skytrax, which conducts Quality Audit and research work for commercial airlines and airports.
Seat comfort, the quality of the in-flight meals, in-flight entertainment, cleanliness, condition of the cabin and efficiency of the service were all factors which were considered in the reviews.
The scores were adjusted to be out of 100 and averaged in order to reflect the overall “most unpleasant in-flight experiences”.
